Businesses across the globe have begun to realize the impending impacts of their actions on the environment and their contribution to the phenomenon of climate change. Several companies have taken proactive initiatives to integrate environmental concerns in their businesses and have improved the environmental performance and business competitiveness. Pursuing Green has become the new driver for companies on the quest towards growth, competitiveness and global excellence. Numerous benefits have been achieved by companies restructuring their various business processes towards ecological sustainability.

CII through an extensive stakeholder consultation and interaction with experts has developed the GreenCo rating system. GreenCo will act as a milestone for companies pursuing green to assess where they stand and help in defining the path forward. GreenCo has been successfully initiated by more than 50 companies across different sectors. As on date, four companies have been rated under GreenCo, namely, Bengaluru International Airport Ltd., ITC Limited PSPD, Bhadrachalam, Vasavadatta Cements Limited, Sedam and ACC, Thondebhavi Cement Works.

What is Greenco?

The objective of the GreenCo rating system is to assess how Green the company is and highlight the way forward to become more greener. The proposed Greenco rating system will act as a milestone for companies pursuing green initiatives to measure where they stand and help them in defining the path forward.

The rating system evaluates green features for companies against the following performance parameters:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Water Conservation
  • Renewable Energy
  • Greenhouse Gas Emission
  • Waste Management
  • Material Conservation, Recycling and Recyclability
  • Green Supply Chain

Other Areas (Ventilation, Surroundings, Site Selection & Innovation)

  • Sharing of best practices on various Greenco concepts
