127 energy efficient companies awarded

  • 127 companies reported total annual savings of Rs 1165 Crores by implementing 969 projects which has reduced electricity demand by 290 MW

"Indian cement and fertilizer industry are the most energy efficient in the world" said Dr. Ajay Mathur, while congratulating the award winners. While highlighting the success of PAT (Perform, Achieve and Trade) scheme by BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency), he said, "Indian Industry has done very well and have overachieved targets in many sectors." He also added energy efficiency has become a priority in Indian Industry and has transformed into a board room discussion from boiler room discussion.

He highlighted various initiatives taken by Government of India such as National Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) to promote clean energy and LED bulb scheme by EESL. He invited views from all the stakeholders on utilizing NCEF for promoting energy efficiency. He mentioned that the energy intensity of Indian Economy has declined by 2.5 % over last few years and is fastest in the world. Dr Mathur congratulated all the companies participating in the energy awards and invited them to take energy efficiency to new frontiers.

Dr Naushad Forbes, President-Designate CII, & Chairman Energy Efficiency Summit 2015, highlighted that with the oil prices being low, the focus towards energy efficiency initiatives is weakening. To further accelerate the energy efficiency movement, Dr Forbes suggested in creating an internal EnCon (Energy Conservation) fund. The fund can be created by internally putting a "premium" on fossil fuel based energy. He added that CII will pilot this initiative in member companies.

Dr A R K Rao, Co-Chairman, National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management 2015, highlighted that the awards in its 16th year has received highest number of participating companies.

Mr Purushothaman Ravichandran, President, Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd., highlighted the importance of technology in achieving energy efficiency.

Ms Vanitha Datla, Chairperson, CII Telangana in her address shared activities and initiatives of CII in promoting energy efficiency in the country and congratulated all the participants of energy awards.

Mr S Raghupathy, Executive Director- CII Godrej GBC delivered the concluding remarks.
