IGBC releases the pilot version of Green Factory Rating System; promises rating for green cities soon

In a major step that would further boost the green building movement in India, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) today released the IGBC- Green Factory Rating System at the meet organised here at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.

The IGBC- Green Factory Rating System developed by the IGBC Green Factory Core Committee consisting of key stakeholders including corporate, architects, developers, manufacturers and institutions, intends to be a guideline for existing and upcoming industrial buildings which address the national priorities such as site conservation, energy & water efficiency, resource conservation, workmen health and productivity.

The Rating System would be applicable to all sectors of industry and for all climactic zones of the country and will strive to encourage factories to transform themselves into virtual green zones.

Releasing the pilot version of IGBC Green Factory Rating Manual on this occasion, Dr Prem C Jain, Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) said that the launch of the Rating System is a clear indication that the Indian industry has come of age in green business practices and the industry is now on its journey by initiating own rating systems & programmes.

Adding further, Dr Prem C Jain said that, IGBC will soon be launching rating programmes for green cities, green schools and existing buildings.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr Pradeep Bhargava, IGBC Green Factory Core Committee, said that industry, as a vital cog in the wheel of development, also has an obligation to promote a clean and green environment and called on the Indian industry to undertake more pro active green initiatives in their factories.

Mr S Raghupathy, Senior Director & Head, CII ?? Godrej GBC, said the factory green rating concept unveils a new chapter in industry-institution partnership and highlighted that the green factory Rating System has adopted a holistic approach in building design and would go a long way in increasing workman comfort & health, thereby leading to enhanced productivity.

Mr S Srinivas, Principal Counsellor, CII-Godrej GBC, in his presentation highlighted the salient features of the IGBC- Green Factory Rating System.
