Mission on Sustainable Growth
India is well poised to transform itself into a developed country by 2020 and to achieve this status; India needs to maintain the current level of GDP growth.
This necessitates increased usage of natural resources, such as, coal, oil, energy, electricity & water. Byproduct of this enlarged resource usage is greater air emissions, waste generation and waste water discharge, thus making the earth spin out of its ecological balance.
Achievement of higher growth rate with optimal use of resources and adopting better management practices to reduce the emissions & discharges is the need of the hour.
Against this background, there is a need for India and Indian corporate to focus on sustainable growth. Towards realizing this objective, CII has initiated a new programme titled Mission on Sustainable Growth (MSG).
Core purpose
The core purpose of the Mission is to "promote and champion conservation of natural
resources in Indian Industry without compromising on high and accelerated growth".

CII - Code for Ecologically Sustainable Business Growth
As a first step, a CII - Code for Ecologically Sustainable Business Growth was developed aiming to involve the top management of companies and seek voluntary commitments towards reducing the specific consumption of energy, water and other natural resources and promote ecologically sustainable growth in their companies.
CII will partner and work together with all the signatories in realising the core purpose of
the Mission.

- Handholding companies in promoting ecological sustainability
- Guiding the industry in developing baseline and voluntary target setting
- Assisting industrial units to reduce and conserve resources by carrying out energy, water and waste utilization studies and also help them in implementation and monitoring
- Developing GHG inventories for participating companies
- Analyse and implement opportunities for reducing emissions, including energy efficiency and renewable energy, and set long-term GHG reduction goals
- Developing Green Purchase Policy
- Share the best practices with the industry
- Green Business Summit: This annual event will provide a platform to learn more on the latest trends in corporate sustainability, green and sustainable design concepts and suggest green business strategies
